Le Guédeniau near Baugé, Pays de Loire

Le Guédeniau is a small village but we have always found plenty to do.  The village has it’s own website www.le-guedeniau.mairie49.fr; as does the neighbouring town of Baugé www.bauge.fr.

Things to Do

Here are some of the activities you might like to consider during your visit, together with links to websites for more details where these are available.

Golf - excellent 18 hole course at Baugé - www.golf-bauge.fr also Saumur and Angers

Opera de Baugé - www.operadebauge.org

Canoeing at Saumur and Gennes - www.canoes.fr

Horse Riding - La Landelle in neighbouring Lalande Challes - http://lalandelle.free.fr

The Cadre Noir French National Riding School - www.cadrenoir.fr

Holly Park theme park (mainly for children up to 10 years old) - www.hollypark.fr

Walking and cycling routes around the village are shown on the noticeboard in the village square.  There is also a booklet of maps available at the bakery, bar or Mairie (all in the square).

Tennis is available in Baugé - ask at the municipal campsite and swimming pool.

There are a number of swimming lakes in the area - ask at Baugé Tourist Office by the chateau.

Of course, the main attractions of the Pays de Loire are the chateaux and the wine

Our favourite chateau is Villandry www.chateauvillandry.com with it’s stunning formal gardens reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland.  Another fantastic place to visit is the chateau at Angers http://angers.monuments-nationaux.fr with its amazing display of 14th century apocalyptic tapestries.

We love the Saumur wines, especially the sparkling wine from Gratien & Meyer www.gratienmeyer.com - their winery just east of Saumur is well worth a visit.  Much less well known but possibly even more delicious is the wine from the Chateau de Montreuil-Bellay www.chateau-de-montreuil-bellay.fr near Doué La Fontaine.
